Run a Group with Group Admins

A group admin is the person who runs a group, like a small group leader. Group admins look after their group from its own page, so they don't need access to your church dashboard.

Before you begin

Add a group admin

  1. Open the group. In the dashboard, go to People, click the Groups tab, then click the group.
  2. Click Add admin. It's in the Group admins section. A window titled Add a group admin opens.
  3. Search for the person. Type a name or email from your People list, then click them.
  4. Check the result. Someone with a Churchday account becomes a group admin right away. Someone without one gets an email invitation and shows as Invitation sent until they accept.

To remove an admin, click the options button on their card and choose Remove as admin, or Cancel invitation for someone who hasn't accepted yet.

What group admins do from the group page

Group admins open the group's page (from the group link, or from their church's Groups tab) and see a few extra controls:

  • Answer requests to join. Waiting requests show at the top of the page, oldest first. Click Approve or Decline. The person gets an email either way.
  • Invite people. Click Invite to open Invite people. Type an email and click Send invite, and that person can join without asking. Invitations expire after 14 days. You can also copy the group's link to share.
  • See who's in the group. Tap the faces to open the people list. Group admins see each person's name, email, and phone number, and can Make group admin or Remove from group from a person's row.
  • Change settings. Click the settings button next to Invite and choose Group settings. This opens the same settings window staff use, including Archive group.

Good to know

  • Group admins get an email when someone asks to join, with a link straight to the group page. Church admins who keep the "new group join request" notification on get it too.
  • Staff can do everything a group admin can. Requests to join and the group's admins also show on the group's page in the dashboard, along with its upcoming events if you can open the Events tab.
  • Hidden groups have a secret invite link. For a Private, hidden group, the Invite people window shows an invite link. Click Reset link if it was shared too widely: the old link stops working right away.
  • Stepping down is easy. A group admin can choose Step down as admin from their own row in the people list. They stay in the group.
  • Removing someone from the group also removes their admin role.
