Creating and Managing Tags
Tags are simple labels you can apply to anyone in your church, like "New Believer" or "First-Time Guest." A person can have as many tags as you like. This article covers how to create a tag and how to rename or delete one later.
Before you begin
- You need to be an Admin, or have been given access to the People tab. Without that, you can view tags but not create, rename, or delete them.
Create a tag
- Go to the People page and open the Tags tab along the top.
- Click New tag in the top-right corner. On a narrow screen, such as a phone, this button shrinks to a small + icon.
- Enter a name in the Name field. This is the only thing you fill in. The field shows the example "e.g. New Believer" until you type.
- Click Create tag to save, or just press
Enter. A short "Tag created" message confirms it, and your new tag appears in the list.
That's it. A tag is name-only by design, so there is nothing else to set up before you start using it.
Rename or delete a tag
Both actions live on the tag's own page.
- Click the tag's name in the Tags list to open it. This page shows everyone who currently has the tag.
- Click the three-dots (…) menu near the top of the page.
- Choose Edit tag to rename it. Type the new name and save. The change applies everywhere the tag is used.
- Choose Delete to remove the tag entirely. A confirmation window appears first.
When you delete, the warning tells you exactly how many people are affected, for example "This will remove the tag from 12 members. This cannot be undone." Deleting takes the label off those people, but it does not remove the people themselves. They stay in your church, just without that tag.
Good to know
- Tags are name-only. Unlike groups and teams, tags have no icon, color, or description. If you find yourself wanting those, a group or team may be the better fit.
- Search speeds things up. Once you have a lot of tags, use the search box at the top of the Tags list to jump to the one you want.
- Adding people is a separate step. Creating a tag makes the label; it does not put anyone in it yet. See the article below on adding and removing people.
- Deleting cannot be undone. There is no trash or restore for a deleted tag, so double-check the member count in the warning before you confirm.
