Creating an Event

Events are at the heart of Churchday, whether it is a Sunday service, a Bible study, or a one-time outreach. Creating one takes just a few minutes, and Churchday drops you straight into the editor so you can see your public event page take shape as you type.

Before you begin

  • You need access to the Events area of your church.

Step-by-step

  1. Go to the Events page. Click Events in the sidebar.

  2. Click New event. You will find the New event button (with a plus icon) in the top-right corner of the Events page. There is no separate create form to fill out first. Churchday briefly shows "Setting up your event…" while it creates a private draft, then opens that draft in the event editor.

  3. Start from the Calendar view instead (optional). If you would rather pick the day first, switch the Events page to Calendar view, click the day you want, and choose Create event from the small pop-up. Your event opens in the editor with that date already filled in.

  4. Look over the editor. The editor shows the event form on one side and a live phone preview beside it. As you change any field, the preview updates so you can see exactly what visitors will see on the public event page.

  5. Name your event. A brand-new event starts out named "Untitled event" with today's date and a 10:00 AM start time. In the Event name field, type a clear, descriptive name, for example "Easter Sunday Service." Watch the preview update as you type.

  6. Set the date and time. In the "When it happens" section, set the Date and Time. These two fields, along with Event name, are the only ones you must fill in before you can save, so they are marked with a red asterisk. You can also add an end time or a repeating schedule here later.

  7. Add the rest of the details (optional). Fill in anything else that helps, such as a cover photo, a category, a description, a location, and who can see the event. You can also come back and add these after saving.

  8. Save a draft or publish. Click Save draft to keep the event private while you keep working on it, or click Publish to make it live and visible to your church.

Good to know

  • Your draft is created the moment you click New event, so if you close the editor before finishing, the event is still there. You will find it in the Events list and can pick up where you left off.
  • A draft stays private until you publish it. No one outside your team can see it.
  • Your church's default settings for things like visibility and registration are already applied to each new event, but you can change them per event.
  • You can always edit an event after publishing it.
