Adding a Cover Photo to Events

A cover photo makes your event stand out on your church page, in listings, and when someone shares the link. You don't need your own image, you can pick a free photo or an animated GIF right inside the editor.

Open the cover picker

  1. Edit your event. Open the event and go to the editor (or create a new one).
  2. Click the camera badge on the square event thumbnail. The Cover photo window opens with three tabs: Photos, GIFs, and Upload.

Pick a free photo (Photos tab)

  1. Stay on the Photos tab. This searches a large library of free, high-quality photos from Unsplash.
  2. Search or tap a suggestion. Type what you want in the search box, or tap a quick chip like Celebration, Worship, Welcome, Praise, Prayer, or Community.
  3. Click a photo to set it as your cover. It applies right away, no download needed.

Pick an animated GIF (GIFs tab)

  1. Click the GIFs tab. This searches Giphy. Your search carries over from the Photos tab, so you can flip between them on the same idea.
  2. Click a GIF to use it as your cover. It plays on your event page.

Upload your own (Upload tab)

  1. Click the Upload tab.
  2. Add your image one of three ways: click Upload to choose a file, drag and drop it onto the box, or click Paste to use an image you just copied.
  3. Crop it to a square. Drag the crop box to frame it, then click Use photo.

Uploads accept JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, or AVIF up to 15 MB.

Remove a cover

Open the cover picker and click Remove at the bottom. Your event will show a simple placeholder instead.

Choose which dates change

When you change the cover on a repeating event, click Save and choose where the new cover belongs:

  • This date: changes only the date you are viewing.
  • This and future dates: changes that date and every date after it. Earlier dates keep their existing cover.
  • Every date, including past: changes the full event and replaces any earlier cover exceptions.

The save window names the cover photo and any other date-specific details you changed. Settings such as registration, payments, visibility, and notifications still apply to every date.

Good to know

  • Covers are square. Your event cover shows as a square on public pages, so photos and uploads are cropped square, keep the important part near the center.
  • Photos and GIFs aren't stored on your account: they're linked from Unsplash and Giphy, so they load fast and don't count against anything.
  • Your changes save with the event. An uploaded photo is added when you save the event.
  • Past dates keep their artwork. Choose This date or This and future dates when a special Sunday needs new artwork without changing older event pages.
