Sending People to Another Site to Register
If you already take sign-ups somewhere else, such as Eventbrite, Planning Center, or a Google Form, you can keep using it. Choose Link in the event editor and paste your sign-up page. The Register button on your event page then opens that page in a new tab.
Before you begin
- You need the Admin role or an events grant for your church.
- Have your sign-up page's web address ready. Open the page in your browser and copy the address from the address bar.
Step-by-step
- Open the event and scroll to Registration. In the event editor, find the Registration section.
- Click Link under How people respond. A Registration link box appears below the buttons.
- Paste your sign-up page's address into Registration link. If you leave off the "https://" at the start, Churchday adds it for you. Under the box you see which site it opens, for example "Opens eventbrite.com in a new tab."
- Write a registration message (optional). Whatever you type in Registration message shows above the Register button, for example "Sign up for the retreat on Eventbrite." Leave it blank to show "Registration for this event happens on another site."
- Click Save draft or Publish.
You're all set! On your event page, the Registration card shows your message and a Register button with a small arrow. A line under the button tells visitors which site it opens. Tapping Register opens your sign-up page in a new tab, so your event page stays open too.
Repeating events
On a repeating event, one link covers every date. Next to How people respond, click Edit, choose Link, paste the address, and click Save for all dates. To skip registration on one date, turn off that date's Sign-ups on switch as usual, and the date shows "No registration needed."
If the event has a price, turn it off under Price and payment first. The Link choice explains this until you do.
What Churchday handles, and what the other site handles
- Churchday still handles the Registration message, the Registration deadline, and Close registration now. When registration closes, the Register button is replaced with "Registration closed."
- The other site handles attendee limits, waiting lists, guests, payment, and registration questions. Those settings are hidden while Link is chosen. On a one-time event, choosing Link also turns off the attendee limit and any price.
- Churchday doesn't see who signs up on the other site, so those people don't appear on your Attendees tab or in the going count on your event page.
Good to know
- People who signed up through Churchday before you chose Link stay on your Attendees tab. When they're signed in, the event page still shows "You're registered!" with a cancel registration link, the same as when sign-ups are turned off, so they can cancel on their own. You can also remove them from the Attendees tab. It's easiest to choose Link before anyone signs up.
- RSVP buttons in your emails send people to the event page, where Register opens your sign-up page.
- If you hide the event's address until people register, it stays hidden on Churchday, since nobody registers here. The event page says the host shares it when people sign up, so include the address in your confirmation on the other site.
- Only regular web addresses, starting with "http://" or "https://", can be saved.
- Your link stays saved if you switch to another option, so choosing Link again brings it back.
